This was the scene upon exiting the Rocky Mountains in Alberta on an ambitious 9600km road trip from Toronto to Vancouver and back in 8 days. This was shot just east of Crows Nest Pass in Alberta. We tried to capture the immense beauty with juxtaposition of the green energy wind turbines, the mountains and the sunset to help convey the powerful feeling we had at that moment. Good thing I didn’t fall into a caffeine coma!

High above Waterloo

Photo

farm

green

hot air balloon

landscape

road

shadow

trees

This is a shot from a few thousand feet above the country side in Waterloo, Ontario. Sandra won a contest for two to take a flight in a hot air balloon for an early morning flight. It turned out to be a perfect morning. It was a bit chilly but it was clear enough to see Toronto on the horizon from the air. The shot itself was composed to capture the man made shapes of the farmers fields. I waited until the shadow of the balloon was in the proper location before I took the shot, I like how the shadow quickly explains how the image was captured.

Stylized field

Photo

clouds

composite

dark

duotone

field

flowers

landscape

sepia

skyline

stylized

trees

When living in Waterloo, I would often venture out into the country looking for scenes to shoot. This particular shot is on one such day. Unfortunately it is not the most engaging composition however the editing techniques I was experimenting with is the motive for posting it here. What I do like about this image is it’s somewhat surreal feel and over-processed tones and hues. This particular image was also a catalyst to a slew of new images using a similar editing style which led to exploration of other editing techniques and so on.

Through the Valley

Photo

blue

green

landscape

lens flare

mountains

sky

sun

sunny

valley

vivid

warm

This is a shot along a valley near Osoyoos,British Columbia, Canada. This is part of a series of images shot from a road trip we took from Toronto to Tofino and back. This was an area of the southern route through B.C. that took us through some really unique landscapes which were basically deserts in the valleys through the mountain range. I love the colour of this shot and the apparent depth created by the hazy background and the vivid foreground. I also didn’t mind the lens flare as I feel it helps convey the warmth and beauty of the moment.

Foggy Trail

Photo

black & white

bruce trail

fog

grass

landscape

snow

winter

In 2006, Burlington, Ontario (where I was living at the time) did not get a lot of snow that winter, the weather was rather strange. This is a shot on the Bruce Trail in Burlington. While hiking, I came across a really unique set of circumstances, the top of the escarpment was covered in fog, with an uncharacteristic small amount of snow and extremely soggy ground. I took this shot of the side of the escarpment with the incredible fog not allowing much visibility. I really like the balance of this image with the ratio of sky to ground.

Kennedy Lake, Vancouver Island

Photo

clouds

Kennedy lake

lake

landscape

mountains

pink

silhouette

A stylized shot of Kennedy Lake on Vancouver Island on the way to Tofino...

This is a stylized shot of Kennedy Lake (see location) on Vancouver Island on the way to Tofino. So I purchased a 2008 Honda CBR 600 RR. The bike has since been sold. After moving to Toronto, I found this bike to be rather overkill for the daily commute. I will definitely say it was an incredible joy to drive and really was an odd but full filling chapter in my life. I really thought this bike was a magnificent beauty, pictures simply couldn’t do it justice.

Skyway Bridge

Photo

blue

bridge

clouds

composite

landscape

long exposure

night

orange

road

yellow

When I first got into photography shot a lot of photos of the Skyway Bridge in Burlington, Ontario. This composition was shot at night with a long exposure. What I really liked about the final composition was the light sky on the bottom right corner which was a reflection of the City of Hamilton. I also loved how the lights flared into the lens and the overall tungsten lighting with the cool sky colour. What I loved about this image was the drastic change in direction of the tree and the lack of any leaves on it. I also like the position of the Moon rising over the tree and field. I did enlarge the Moon to give it more detail. Like this image, I did this to add more visual interest and detail to the moon. With the lens used the moon is not that interesting or impressive as it was in person. I was driving for about 16 hours at this point on our way back to Toronto from Vancouver and we were coming to the end of the range. This shot is not editied andthe clouds in it are real. I really loved the scene of this image and the huge blue sky. The sun was starting to set to the west (the shot facing east) so the mountains cast an incredible bluish green.
